Otolemur crassicaudatus, commonly known as the brown greater galago, large-eared greater galago, thick-tailed galago or bush baby is a primate species belonging to the genus Otolemur and the suborder Strepsirrhini which also consists of lemurs, pottos and lorises. The name “crassicaudatus” comes from the Latin “crassus” and “cauda”, meaning “fat” and “tail” respectively, while the name "bush baby" originates from its vocalisations sounding like a baby's cry.
They are commonly found in east and southern Africa and reside in tropical rainforests. Wild brown greater galagoes live to around 10-15 years of age while captive greater galagoes can live for up to 22.7 years. Currently 2 subspecies are recognised: crassicaudatus and kirkii.
